Back when this blog was elsewhere I introduced a special feature called “Hopfen und Malz,” a feature in which a priest friend of mine provided insight into the interplay between religion and beer. As most beer lovers know, brewing and religion have been intertwined throughout history, particularly with respect to monastic life, and it’s difficult […]

I won’t stray too often off of the topic of beer, and when I do it’ll probably be into scotch, another fine malt beverage. Today, however, I’ll be talking about a beer of a different sort.
While in the south I’ve been staying with my in-laws who are not fans of beer or any other alcoholic […]

I’ve told the story elsewhere, but one thing to look forward to is my planned October trip to Germany. It’s set to coincide with - you guessed it - the Oktoberfest, and fortunately I have business to attend to in Munich.

Those who don’t know it will figure it out soon enough, I live in Philadelphia. Fortunately for me, Philadelphia has a number of decent breweries and brewpubs, although we’ve lost a few over the years. There are four which deserve special mention, though.
Yard’s (Philadelphia) - This is a dependable mainstay of Philadelphia area microbrewing, which […]

Greetings, and welcome to the new beer blog here at b5. Writing these intros, I always have to think to myself, why does the world need another beer blog? So I’ll tell you what I’ve come up with, and if you agree feel free to come back and check it out on a regular […]
