Brew Ha Ha: making a fuss about beer

A different approach to recycling

by Chris on June 26th, 2008

Back when I was a kid, I didn’t drink beer but I did collect beer cans. As my wife can tell you, I still have some of them, which annoys her to no end. Unfortunately, at this point they’ve not been treated very well, and so most of them are in pretty bad condition.

Now, I never had all that many cans in the grand scheme of things, particularly as compared to my neighbors. That’s partially a function of basement size (as this site points out, beer can collecting takes up some space) and partially a function of dedication. That, and my dad wasn’t much of a beer drinker, so he was not a terribly ready source of new cans. I did have one ace up my sleeve, though - while my Dad didn’t drink much beer, he did travel overseas, and he managed to bring back some pretty obscure cans from all over the place. I had Leopard from Australia, Hansa from South Africa, and a bunch of others no one in the neighborhood had ever seen.

Space and spouse prevent me from picking up that hobby again, but if you’re intrigued check out the Brewery Collectibles Club of America (formerly Beer Can Collectors of America) site for more info.
