Despite losing its biggest brewery to the Belgians, the US really likes beer. A recent Gallup Poll indicates that the preference for beer increased to a double-digit margin over wine.
In 2005, wine was the alcoholic drink of the choice in the US, peaking at 39%. Since the, it has slipped to 31%, while wine has shot up to an amazing 47%. In other words, almost half of the alcohol consumed by US adults is beer.
Who’s driving the trend? Well, folks like me and Chris. Drinkers aged 30 to 49 years old tend to prefer beer.
Those most likely to take a daily tipple? College graduates and those earning more then $75,000. Not a bad demographic - no wonder InBev was so eager to get into the US market.
The average, however, wasn’t a drink per day. Respondents indicated they consumed an average 3.8 alcoholic drinks a week - or about one beer every other day.
So, now I’m curious… How much beer do you drink per week? Take our handy poll in the sidebar - and leave your comments below.
