So, here’s a strange beer fact for you. Last year, Anheuser-Busch gave $100,000 to Al Sharpton’s charity which, as it happens, is currently being investigated for misuse of charity funds for his presidential campaign. That’s particularly ironic given the source of much of John McCain’s cash.
I guess they’re just hedging their bets.

I know the Australians love their beer, but generally speaking it’s better to put the seatbelt on your child first and then, assuming you have one available, to strap in your case of beer. Apparently one Australian man didn’t know that, and now he’s paying the price.

Hopfen and Malz, this time with a more secular theme.
So this is a little bit of a digression for me… a column with no theology. Yet what I witnessed this past Saturday night left me so appalled that I had to write about it. I had been out at a black-tie fundraising […]

The Washington Post ran a clever piece they called beer madness, which pitted 32 American beers against one another in a blind tasting test. That’s not so unusual, what is unusual is that they ran the tests in pairs, creating a “bracket” of beer contests. The eventual winner was somewhat surprising to me - Brooklyn […]

I did a search for a Mother’s Day beer recommendation and I didn’t find a whole lot. What I did find was actually a little surprising - an Oregon brewery which has designated it’s newest doppelbock a mother’s day beer. Without being all too sexist about it, I don’t really think of a mother when […]

So, if you were interested in the recent post I did on Pabst blue ribbon, you may well be interested in this as well, although it’s rather long. It’s an interesting look into the dynamics of Pabst’s products and marketing today, which doesn’t necessarily paint the most rosy of pictures for the venerable brewer. In […]

Since yesterday was a primary, I somehow have politics on my mind, so I thought I’d try to figure out whether any of these candidates have earned the vote of the craft brew drinker.
Apparently, Obama purports to be a beer guy, at least according to this post. That’s not to say he has good taste […]

For those who didn’t notice, the Pabst Blue Ribbon brand, long a mainstay of the lunchbox-toting working class, has made a comeback in the last few years, becoming the beer of choice for the anti-establishment wannabes in many urban settings. Trading on a sense of nostalgia and simplicity, they’ve managed to make a mediocre beer […]

So this priest walks into a bar … #4
I have often been struck by the similar roles played by priests and bartenders. In many ways our jobs are the same. We both listen to people talk about their problems, we both offer advice and mediate disputes and we both try to give folks […]
